Overview

This position is responsible for developing and overseeing material quality control testing programs associated with the use of supplemental cementitious materials in the construction industry.  This includes, but is not limited to, establishing and maintaining company labs and equipment, collecting and testing samples, and working with industry groups and state agencies to maintain applicable certifications.

Responsibilities

Position may involve performing other duties as required, which may not be mentioned below.  Specific functions may change from time to time.

  • Determine testing protocols to obtain and maintain State DOT certifications.
  • Run tests on ash from Hoppers, Rail Cars, Trucks, and Barges when needed.
  • Communicate to the proper personnel if there are any problems with loading or testing material
  • Maintain proper documentation and submit samples to DOT’s
  • Build Composite Samples to send to Independent Laboratories.
  • Assist personnel in testing hoppers when starting up new units or after an outage
  • Pick up samples from different sites to deliver or ship to independent testing labs or State Department of Transportations
  • Keep track of industry standard or new DOT specifications
  • Submit required samples and test results to state agencies
  • Make sure labs are supplied with the things needed to complete testing
  • Run tests on products from new sources we are trying to market
  • Make sure lab equipment is calibrated and maintained for all sites
  • Work with customers to improve material quality maximizing sales volumes
  • Work with Sales and Operations Departments to help find new sources or to get approved for more State DOT’s at our existing sources
  • Visit new project sites and set up Quality Control Testing Labs and Programs
  • Submit Test Data and required paperwork to each State DOT monthly to maintain compliance
  • Write quality control plans and send the required paperwork to state DOT’s for any New Sites
  • Stay involved with American Concrete Institute Technical Committees and attend state Concrete Technical Committee meetings to meet people in the industry and learn of any changes in specifications.
  • Visit current and potential customers to discuss any problems or issues they may have

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in or related discipline required
  • At least 3 years of experience in the construction industry preferred.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy are essential skills for this position
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

Work Environment & Conditions

  • This position requires working in an internal environment as well as an external construction environment
  • This position requires a flexible work schedule; night and/or weekends may be required
