This position is responsible for enforcing health and safety guidelines, policies, and procedures within the workplace.

Responsibilities

·        Promote a safe workplace without risk to health

·        Ensure the workplace satisfies health and safety requirements

·        Proactive prevention and precautions against, or adequate control of, exposure to hazardous substances, and danger from flammable, explosive, electrical, noise, radiation and manual handling risks

·        Investigate accidents, injuries, or occupational diseases to determine causes and preventable measures

·        Report or review findings from accident investigations and facilities inspections

·        Provide weekly reports on activities and observations

·        Inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance

·        Work with the Safety Manager to conduct or coordinate worker training in areas such as safety laws and regulations, hazardous condition monitoring, and use of safety equipment

·        Interview employers and employees to obtain information about work environments and workplace incidents

·        Communicates safety policies with customers

·        Act as safety resource contact for site managers on multiple projects / jobs

·        Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

·        A valid driver’s license required

·        High school diploma or equivalent required

·        Bachelor’s degree in safety related program preferred

·        Minimum of 5 years work experience in safety and/or compliance functions required

·        Prior experience in ash management, waste, civil-type construction or related environment preferred

·        OSHA 510 certification required

·        A familiarity with OSHA 1926 standards and requirements

·        A working knowledge of heavy equipment and excavation safety

·        Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions

·        Experience with Microsoft Office Suite required

·        Position requires honesty, dependability, and ability to be relied upon, responsible, and fulfill obligations

Work Environment & Conditions

·        Ability to use electronic equipment such as computer, cell phone and handheld radio for communication with supervisors and co-workers

·        This position requires a flexible work schedule: nights, weekends and holidays

·        Must be able to climb, maintain body equilibrium, reach, grasp, bend and walk/stand/sit for extended periods of time

·        Must be able to hear and see naturally or with correction

·        Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds

·        Be subject to loud noises

·        Be subject to atmospheric conditions - one or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system or the skin: fumes, odor, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation

·        This position requires working in the internal and external environment

·        Ability to work independently and as a team

·        Ability to work under pressure with time constraints in a changing environment

·        Ability to effectively communicate
