Based in Louisville, Kentucky, Charah Solutions assists utilities with all aspects of managing and recycling ash byproducts generated from the combustion of coal in the production of electricity as well as routine power plant maintenance and outage services for coal and nuclear energy providers. The company also designs and implements solutions for ash pond management and closure, landfill construction, fly ash and slag sales, and structural fill projects.

As a key member of the Human Resources team, the Regional HR Manager will manage all site-specific HR delivery including site recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, performance management and development. Regional HR Manager will serve as a role model and advocate for the company’s core values of Customer Commitment, Safety, Innovation, Teamwork and Integrity.

 

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a trusted business partner to management regarding positive employee relations, engagement, staffing, performance management, compensation, development, counseling, employment law, termination issues and other related matters
  • Provide labor relations support to our union sites working with operations leaders and labor union representatives in a positive way to accomplish company goals and resolve challenges. Serve as subject matter expert on labor relations policies and programs
  • Serve as a link between management and employees by handling questions, interpreting and administering policy, and helping resolve work-related issues
  • Plan and conduct employee on-boarding and ongoing development training to foster deeper engagement and commitment to accomplishing organizational objectives
  • Handle reported concerns of employees and involve appropriate management personnel per company policy, conduct investigations and ensure follow up and proper action is taken when appropriate; reviews and approves all disciplinary actions to ensure consistency, and proper documentation
  • Serve as a liaison between the Company and its employees in the day-to-day administration of company policies ensuring integrity and fair-mindedness
  • Develop and educate management in the areas of HR and positive employee relations during periodic meetings and events
  • Manage the Annual Performance Management and Calibration Review Cycle for assigned client group(s); coach managers to develop clear objectives and development plans, to provide coaching and feedback during the year, and to evaluate individual and group performance
  • Provide training and support to management; Lead Talent Review process and provides guidance and recommendations for employee development, succession planning, and retention of high potential talent to build organizational bench strength
  • Promote a culture of service excellence and employee engagement; actively identify and seek to resolve drivers of employee turnover and implement best practices to retain top talent; advocate for initiatives that will positively impact the employee population
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations
  • Take lead in development and communication of Affirmative Action Programs and Drug Free Workplace compliance
  • Evaluate employee relations / labor relations related challenges and meet with management to determine recommended course of action (e.g. training, policy, programs, etc.)
  • Pursue a program of self-development through the use of selected reading, seminars, and participation in continued technical education
  • Function as a key member of the HR team and other teams, as assigned
  • Perform other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor or upper management

Qualifications

  • 10+ years’ HR or related experience encompassing both generalist and recruiting responsibilities
  • Experience in a multi-site, multi-state operations required with construction environment experience preferred
  • Superior interpersonal, leadership, verbal/written communication, and presentation skills
  • Human Resource SPHR or HRCI certifications preferred
  • BA in HR/LR/Business Administration or related field required; MBA preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of the principles of Human Resources management including Federal, State and Local law
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and project management skills. Manages a project to completion, achieving the desired results in a cost-efficient manner
  • Successful track record in leading teams and motivating a group to accomplish goals
  • Displays and embodies team orientation, ability to develop, maintain and utilize relationships at all levels; can work effectively across organizational boundaries to achieve common goals
  • Must have the ability to make recommendations to effectively resolve problems or issues, by using sound judgment that is consistent with business standards, practices, policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Basic core competencies in staffing, employee relations, labor relations, leadership development and performance management
  • Take lead in development and communication of Affirmative Action Programs and Drug Free Workplace compliance
  • Evaluate employee relations / labor relations related challenges and meet with management to determine recommended course of action (e.g. training, policy, programs, etc.)
  • Pursue a program of self-development through the use of selected reading, seminars, and participation in continued technical education
  • Function as a key member of the HR team and other teams, as assigned
  • Display strong PC skills, to include Excel and PowerPoint; previous experience with iCIMS and UKG, preferred
  • Perform other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor or upper management

Work Environment & Conditions

  • This position requires working in an internal support center and external construction environment
  • Job requires travel up to 50% of the time including overnight stays; some periods of heavier travel may be necessary for special projects and seasonal programs
  • This position requires a flexible work schedule with ability to work beyond a normal 8-5 schedule; night and/or weekends may be required
  • While on site, this position will be exposed to loud machinery, fumes, airborne particles, chemicals, and risk of electrical shock; must be willing and able to wear safety protective gear as required
